We meet on Saturdays in a borrowed church hall. Forty children, ages seven to twelve, most of them a year or two behind where they should be in reading. We have volunteers and we have the hall. What we do not have is books at the right level. Most donated books are far too hard, which makes children feel worse rather than better.

Levelled readers are the whole game and almost nobody donates them. Look for publishers in your own region rather than shipping from abroad. Shipping costs more than the books and takes months.

There are small grants for exactly this, usually between 500 and 5000 dollars, and they are much less competitive than the big ones. I will post the next round when it opens.

That would help a lot. I had assumed we were too small to apply for anything.

Shamp

Shamp is where people who care about the same things find each other. Ask questions, share opportunities, start projects, and help the person who is one step behind you.

Shamp and goimpactnow will never ask you to pay to apply for anything. No application fee, no processing fee, no fee to release a grant. If someone asks you for money, it is a scam. Report it.
