Research groups and scientific institutions in Least Developed Countries can apply to host an experienced scientist through the TWAS Research Professors in LDCs programme. Appointments last one year and include an in-person research visit of between two and four weeks.
Overview
The programme strengthens scientific capacity in institutions with limited access to senior international researchers. A host group in an eligible Least Developed Country identifies a suitable TWAS Fellow, Young Affiliate, or eligible alumnus and develops a programme of research, teaching, or scientific collaboration.
The visiting scientist is expected to contribute directly to the host institution’s work while helping build longer-term scientific links.
Benefits
- International Travel: TWAS supports the visiting professor’s international travel.
- Research Collaboration: The visit can support joint research, technical guidance, and new institutional partnerships.
- Training: Research Professors may lecture, mentor scientists, advise students, or strengthen research programmes.
- Institutional Capacity: Host institutions gain direct access to experienced scientists from the TWAS network.
